Start by narrowing down exactly what you want to do. You can buy and sell bonds on your own time with your personal portfolio, and the only requirement for that is enough money to buy the bond. You can work in the finance division of a company buying and selling muni’s and other less risky bonds in order to keep the firm’s money in order. If you want to be a bond trader you will likely have to find a position at an investment bank. You could go work for a bond fund, perhaps, doing research. There are tons of other opportunities with bonds, but the easiest way to get into the finance industry, in general, is to go to a target school and major in finance, economics, and/or math. My advice is to go to a top school and narrow down exactly what you want to do in the bond world, then find people who are doing what you want to do and find out how they got there. Good luck.
