Specifically, do they have a share price that investors purchase at like say $15.00 a share (just an example) or do they have other ways of appropriately tracking an investor’s assets growth or decline? thank you

Watching Ortiz and ManRam hammering the ball makes me wonder, if the Angels had another big bat behind Guerrerro, how much better they would be. Where can they find another bat next year? Sign Andruw Jones? Trade for Helton? Or ‘gulp’ get Bonds?

If it’s LIVE and updated every second (or millisecond), then on a small scale, it’s very accurate and somewhat predictable.
Otherwise, it’s also accurate, but outside factors really make it depend.
On stable things like utilities, it’s fairly accurate (and moves slow).

Charting is good for short to midterm. For example, if a stock keeps going up to 100 and then falling (or falling to 100 and then rising). There’s a good chance it will keep doing that without some other effect (news, etc.) to boost it. The price history is the only way to notice that effect.
In our current volatile market, I find it very useful for short term trends.
In the long-term (over 1 year), macroeconomic and company fundamentals tell you where the stock is heading. Unless they are cooking the books…

Technical analysis can be a helpful tool, but it’s far from perfect. I’ve improved my results since I started using TA in addition to fundamental analysis, but still make mistakes. What I’ve found is that the odds of a stock rising in the short-term are higher when the stock is oversold and near a support level on the TA charts (or falling when it’s overbought and near a resistance level), but it’s by no means a certainty. Overbought stocks can and do get more overbought and oversold stocks can and do get more oversold. In my view, using TA somewhat increases your odds of buying/selling at a good time, but certainly not to anywhere near 100%.
