When did war bonds become savings bonds?
about 11 months ago - 3 comments
During WWII the Treasury sold War Bonds ostensibly to help finance the War, but actually to pull currency out of circulation and help control inflation during a time of rationing and relative high wages in the civilian population. WHen did the name change occur. Does any one remember Savings Stamps? When sis they stop selling More >

Don’t give me statistics on how few people actually become successful or anything like that. I would like to know generally what colleges are ideal and what to major in, also look at possible internships and job possibilities prior to actually being ‘the big guy’. Basically just how to work your way to the top

I am 16 years old entering 11th grade and I’ve started to think about a potential career choice. I have always been drawn to the workings of the stock market and I have found a job title that fits my fancy, interest wise as well as, of course, salary wise. I would like to become More >

there are virtually no jobs for pilots and those are generally filled by ex air force pilots with hundreds or thousands of hours

I have been a pilot since I soloed at sixteen, I worked flying the large aircraft for 10 years. What i am going to tell you Is the truth. Get your private ad your Instrument ratings and enjoy flying privately, stay away from commercial aviation every pilot I have ever known In the field was divorced did not have good relationships with there children and wished they had gone Into another field. Enjoy your flying but do not do It commercially.

Move to Australia or the Asia/Pacific region. There is a high demand for Airline Pilots that will continue to rise. Very good training facilities also. What you can do now is save and invest money!!

What Harley Drive neglects to mention is that while 2009 was one of the worst years in history as far as hiring pilots goes, it will be the polar opposite in a few years, after the economy rebounds and many of the baby boomers will be forced to retire at the age of 65.
Investing in the stock market has a basic rule of thumb: don’t invest more money than you can afford to burn. Because that might be exactly what you do if things don’t go your way. I would advise you save that money, don’t invest any money in stocks unless you know what you’re doing and you’ve done your homework, and even then no more than 10% of your money. I would seriously consider joining the ROTC, since sometimes they can pay your entire college tuition and guarantee you a job for the next ten years after college, and plus you’ll get an edge experience-wise.
EDIT: I only just realized you mentioned you have experience in investing so ignore that part. Except for the “no more than 10%” part. And diversification.
Best of luck, and never give up on that dream!

Learning to fly isn’t a bad place to start. You could go to one of the Big Names, or you could go to the Mom and Pop flight school at your local GA airport. They meet the same standards, and are certified by the same people. All the airlines care is that you can fly and have the correct pieces of paper to prove it. They don’t care where you learned it (that certification thing again).
Consider doing your education in a field other than aviation. That way you’ll have something to fall back on if the flying gig doesn’t work out.
Have you actually done any flying? Real left seat flying in a real plane? How do you know you want to do it for a living?

Money isn’t the answer to everything but this is one of those times when money is the solution. If you have the money, you could be an airline flight crew member in just a few years.
Most Americans only think in terms of the United States but the demand for pilots is strong in the 3rd world and growing. Most of those countries lack sufficient numbers of indigenous pilots to fill their demands so they hire ex-pats.
There is a company called Eagle Jet International that has agreements with several airlines and if you go through their program you will end up as a First Officer on a 737 NG or A320. Its expensive but its the fastest way to become an airline pilot.
